GiveOne Toilet Project

GiveOne Toilet Project to build a new latrine for our adopted school, Institution Mixte Nao Community School, in Leogane, Haiti.

HOW GOOD WORX

As of November 2013 we were able to celebrate the completion of the new modern toilet facility which was built with funds raised through our Festival Lespwa and hugely supported and executed by our friends at Global Hope.

We've included a few images of the students exploring their new toilets!

Mesi friends!

Background on the GiveOne Toilet Project:

The current pit latrine, pictured in this gallery is nine years old.  There are five pits that the girls and boys must share and one larger pit for the staff.  The smell from the existing latrine is posing a distraction to the students whose classrooms are adjacent to the structure.  Of more concern is the increased health risk this poses to the 235 students who must access this daily.

Maxandre and his staff work to keep the latrine as clean as possible but it has outgrown it's intended use.

We hope to raise $10,000 by the end of the 2012-2013 school year so that they can build a new modern latrine over the summer break.

A Quick Update:

On Saturday, August 10, our friends at Global Hope will be hosting a family-friendly event, Festival Lespwa, to help raise funds for the toilet project.  To date our Global Hope Friends have worked to fund the water source/well - the first ever for the school and surrounding community.  Additionally, funds from Global Hope have offset teacher salaries as well as further construction of a storage room or depot for food and wrought iron work for windows on the newly built classrooms.  We can't express enough what our partnership with Global Hope has meant.
