We’ve established this pilot community garden project as a way to further engage our community on the issue of hunger/food insecurity here in Darien and surrounding areas. (Click on images above to see what we've been up to!)
Thanks to the Hagens and Safety Village of Darien for agreeing to act as the pilot location for this unique community project - it's proven to be the perfect location!
Exciting Developments for 2016
We're expanding our growing space this season and will be collaborating with local organizations to establish Pop-up Patches in open spaces.
First up will be an exciting pop-up garden patch at Indian Prairie Public Library as part of their summer programming!

We managed to plant over 68 containers or garden patches for our first season and we distributed over 400 pounds of garden fresh foods to our at-risk families. We also partnered with Chuck's Cafe in Darien, City Hall of Darien and Darien Park District for pop-up Sunny Patch gardens. We recruited a small army of Home Patch members, residents who offered to share some of their garden yields with our families-this added to the success of our distribution.
We intend to offer a variety of workshops and other programs throughout the upcoming season.
Garden yields will be made available to select families in our community struggling to access healthy, organic foods.
Membership registration for Season Two will begin in March. To learn more about getting involved you can visit:http://www.goodworxinc.org/sunny-patch-membership/
A very special thank you to High Caliper Growing Systems of Oklahoma City, OK for their generous donation of their Smart Pot/Big Bag Bed container systems for our community garden patches. They provided the initial 24 containers to help launch our project in May of 2015.
We are a local distributor of Big Bag Beds and Smart Pots if you care to order through us. We use funds from the sale of these containers to support our Sunny Patch Garden project. We are usually able to turn your order around within a week to ten days and your containers/Patches can be picked up directly from the Patch, located at 7400 Cass Avenue.
